Mass was held on Monday at St. Sarkis Church for the Armenian Orthodox Parish of Damascus to mark Christmas according to the Julian calendar.

Archbishop Bishop Armash Nalbandian, Primate of the Armenian Church of Damascus, headed the mass.

In his sermon, Nalbandian prayed for peace in Syria, for the wounded and sick to be healed, for the abducted to return, for those who lost their jobs to find employment, and for children to find happiness.

He said that Syria has been through a lot during 2013, with many people being injured, kidnapped, displaced or killed, yet Syria persevered and achieved victories over difficulties.

“There have been martyrs in our schools… children ages six and seven… what crime did children commit for them to rob them of happiness?” Nalbandian said.
